CHALLENGE: To help a disjointed Human Resources department in a hectic start-up environment to prepare for an initial Joint Commission (JCAHO) visit (Oct 2017-Feb 2018). With competing priorities, lean resources and a tight deadline, significant deficits had to be quickly identified and a master plan instituted to resolve these issues. This was in addition to staying on top of all the work that normally takes place in a 600 employee company.
APPROACH:
- Created project plan to set manage shifting priorities, multiple work flows, updates and timelines.
- Authored auditing tool and overhauled personnel records to quantify current compliance rates and project completion rates by assigned deadline date.
- Created work flows to calculate realistic workloads and deadlines for HR staff; taking into account regular duties that take up the workday of Human Resources.
- Actively managed deliverables, workflows and deadlines to deliver realistic status reports to management.
RESULTS: Highest Joint Commission score for any of the 13 facilities operated by parent company (Feb 2018). Compliance rates shoot up from less than 20% to 100%. Post inspection JCAHO statement specifically commends the Human Resources department for one of the best scores amongst HR Departments of similar-sized facilities. Gold standard achieved.
